Norwegian Girls Minnebok (Scrapbook)

September 11, 2010

This little book belonged to a little Norwegian girl called Tone and it seems to be little notes by her friends, some with drawings and photos dated from 1956 through to 1959. It was so nice I just could not leave it at the boot sale. Mostly in Norwegian but I do love the one from her friend Ann Finholt from America. After tracking down Ann Finholt, this is what she had to say on her entry  in the minnebok…

“My family (four children and parents) spent a year in Norway when I was age 8 (which is why at the bottom of my page 8 ar! appears so emphatically).  My father was a chemistry professor at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and he had a sabbatical to study philosophy of science for a year in 1955-56.  (We had many relatives in Norway who remained in touch with family members who emigrated to the United States.)  We attended Norwegian schools, and I was in second grade at the time.  Tone must have been a classmate at Uraneanborg (I am sure this is not the correct spelling) Skole in Fau Bendickson’s class.  We all had minneboks, which we decorated and wrote in for each other. Mine is somewhere in our attic. Thank you for sparking wonderful memories.”
